Cosworth, a renowned innovator for automotive performance sought to modernize its data protection strategy for its key production SAP data bases and CAD CAM design output.
The production elements are in constant use and deadlines needed to met. To research, test and then implement a new comprehensive backup solution without impacting on the round the clock operations of its design team would prove a challenge if not managed correctly.
Careful consideration needed to be taken for how back up should evolve whether on premise for sensitive intellectual property or in the cloud for historic rarely accessed data.
- Protection without disruption to production activities
- 24x7x365 protection
- Easy to test DR in a simulated failure
- Real time reporting
- Application integration
101 Data Solutions met with the Cosworth team and began assessing it’s existing data through non-intrusive electronic analysis. Having done this over a period of 7 days the information was presented back to the key stakeholders.
A simple design was put forward utilising on premise disc storage and cloud ready back up software. The design took into consideration current, future workloads and Cosworth’s strategic 5-year plan.
101 Data Solutions organised and delivered a proof of concept utilising copies of their primary data base and virtual machines, drawing up and acceptance criteria in conjunction with the customer each mile stone was worked through methodically.
Once the proof of concept period finished 101 Data Solutions were able to simply switch the back up solution to live with zero impact on production.
Cosworth is now able to replicate copies of its live applications and data bases to a backup disc target and to their Azure cloud if chosen.
Residual benefits Cosworth experienced was the enhanced ability to perform off line testing of new databases before being put into production limiting the need to roll back to previous versions should the upgrade not perform as well as expected.
